Plaid is How I Celebrate Valentine’s Day

You want to know what idiot decides to cut out sugar, grains and taste out of their life at the end of January, completely forgetting that Valentine’s Day is the next month? Oh yeah, that’s me. I decided to go hardcore on South Beach Diet (Would anyone be interested on updates on this diet?) and not only do phase one for more than the required two weeks, but make do it a MONTH and that month just so happens to be over the shortest and sweetest month. I’m on week 2.5 and while I don’t hate my life, I’m realizing that almost every single thing related to Valentine’s Day has to do with candy or something sweet.
For example, did you realize that almost every single prop that looks good in Instagram photos is sweet and cute? Did you know that all those impulse buys that Target cleverly makes you wander through are all sweet? DID YOU REALIZE YOUR GUM HAS SUGAR IN IT? (Sorry, calming it down now. Just remembered what cinnamon gum tastes like and had warm memories.)

However, did you realize that they make scented cards? Yes, scented cards. Because a card that sings to you isn’t enough, they now have to smell. Also, you can buy a Valentine’s Day card for your dog so there’s that. (In case you are wondering, yes, I did smell the cards and yes I did try and figure out if I had a dog what kind of card I would get it.) (Also yes, I had a lot of free time that Saturday and yes I need a life.)

So how am I celebrating a month of food and love? I’m wearing this cape. This cape is as Valentine’s Day as I get and honestly I’m okay with it. I miss sugar but you know, I’m okay and I know that this is really good for my body (read more on that here), I just miss a few things but I’m trying to distract myself by dressing brightly and warmly this month.

One of my favorite things about this month is that all of my friends are pretty obsessed with Galentine’s Day and we all love getting together for brunch, movies, sending each other gifts and celebrating our mutual love of Leslie Knope and strong female role models and celebrating ovaries before broveries. This weekend I get to get together, while totally wearing this cape to be festive, with my best friends in Wichita and celebrate with brunch and movies!

Okay, I have to confess: yes, I smelled those scented cards that were like a mix of a paper factory and artificial chocolate scent maybe one or two times more than I should have.
